The New European Renaissance and our future

What kind of a world do we live in? It is a journey, an adventure going faster and faster. Were we really born to live and to die following the rules of evolution, which is blind and unguided? Is our species truly just not equipped to survive what comes next? Has the time really come for us to take control of our own evolution and leap past our alarming ignorance to plunge deep into the unknown where we will discover our true potential, and will artificial intelligence, as one of the new tools of the future, really provide the key to salvation? Questions like these about the world are not just part of fiction and they resonate loudly.

The winter is coming

Sodelovali smo na 11. mednarodni znanstveni konferenci »Za človeka gre« 2023, ki je bila posvečena aktualnim izzivom družbenega in tehnološkega razvoja. Pripravili sta jo Alma Mater Europaea in Evropska akademija znanosti in umetnosti iz Salzburga, z namenom, da predstavimo Novo Evropsko Renesanso. Vizionarski dokument, ki je bil na konferenci predstavljen je pripravil slovenski sociolog, pisatelj in alpinist prof. Igor Škamperle iz Univerze v Ljubljani. V njem je primerjal čas renesanse s situacijo danes. Škamperle obrazloži, da se je v času srednjeveške Evrope v času velike stiske, vojne, lakote, revščine in velikega dvoma pojavila renesansa.

A vision for a New European Renaissance

Europe Day is celebrated on the 9th of May, as the anniversary of the day when the Schuman’s visionary declaration was written in 1950. It enabled better cooperation in post-war Europe. At that time, they proposed the establishment of the European Coal and Steel Community. In 1993 the European Union emerged from this special form of internal cooperation. French foreign minister Robert Schuman was of the opinion that a united Europe will certainly not be created immediately, but that it will be a long-term process that will not only be supported by one plan, but by many solid successes that are a prerequisite for solidarity.

Ko nas evropske vrednote vodijo v prihodnost …

Renesansa je povrnila iščočega človeka, pogumnega pustolovca, ki se je vrnil k preučevanju sebe kot središča bivajočega. Ponovno se je zavedel svojega dostojanstva in poslanstva ter obudil speča znanja antičnih modrecev. Šele z zavedanjem svojih sposobnosti, svojih podarjenih mu moči, je lahko spoznal svojo odgovornost do sočloveka in narave. Porodi se tudi sočutnost, iz sočutnosti pa dejanja dobrote in lepote. Te vrednote so bile prisotne pri najplemenitejših predstavnikih Renesanse in humanizma. Razsvetljenstvo pa v novi podobi z izrazito kontinuirano inspiracijo iz preteklosti ozaveščeno potrebujemo tudi danes.
